  • Schmitt landed the Challenger space vehicle on the moon south of Mare Serenitatis in the Taurus-Littrow region of the moon. The mission planners hoped that the region was full of useful information to discover. Observations began to be made on the moon’s surface after the descent.


  • The two astronauts started exploring with the vehicle they used to make explorations on the lunar surface (known as the lunar rover). They carried out seismic experiments with the explosives they brought with them. They also analyzed the samples they got from the Moon with the spacecraft. In the following days, the astronauts who performed a few more hits on the Moon continued to sample the Moon.


  • Schmitt then transferred the landing area to Carol Butler, saying: “It was a region that had more diversity than all Apollo zones, and was specifically chosen for it.   • Why did we go to space?
  • The Apollo 17 scientific initiative was the finalization of a major program that began in 1963.   • Changing priorities

  • Since then, the presidents of America talk about their desire to return to the Moon, but they are saying that they can do it in the next decades.
