  • Steampunk, a sub-genre of science fiction, is a type of fiction that brings together technological and aesthetic designs inspired by mechanical engineering from steam-driven machines.

  • Jules Verne or H.G. Wells is considered to be the first novel of this genre, although the book titled Titus Alone (1959) by Mervyn Peake is considered to be the first book of this genre.


  • The most common design items during the Steampunk period were steam, copper, big wheels, gears, pipes and mechanical parts. These types of instruments are not only inspired but also in clothes; Leather boots, linen shirts, corsets, mechanical glasses, watches, copper jewelery, binoculars, mechanically functioning body apparatus. Although Steampunk is referred to by science fiction, it is used in combination with different genres such as fantasy, horror, history.



  • Steampunk’s type is an example of some of the most important writers and books that have been the source of inspiration; We can say that Nautilus submarine in the book of Jules Verne – Under the Sea (1870), H.G.Wells – Time Machine (1895), Bram Stoker – Dracula (1897) and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. For today, Alan Moore’s series “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” comic book series Victorian steampunk and Tim Powers’ “Anubis Doors” written by modern and good examples.






  • Steampunk species are used intensively for the period of viktoriya, but the American wild west is also home to this species. Barry Sonnenfeld The Wild Wild West, which was released in 1999, and The Wild Wild West, a television series from 1965 to 1969, are examples of this.
