  • South America is a continent that forms the southern half of America. It lies to the east of the Pacific Ocean, to the west of the Atlantic Ocean, to the south of North America and to the north of Antarctica.
  • The South has an area of 17.840.000 sq. Km. Approximately 3.5% of Earth’s surface. The population by 2005 was estimated to be more than 371 million.
  • South America is fourth in the field rankings (after Asia, Africa and North America) and fifth in population.
