  • Pablo Picasso, full name Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso (October 25, 1881April 8, 1973) is a Spanish painter and sculptor. It is the best-known names of 20th century art. With Georges Braque, he laid the foundations for cubism.

  • Picasso was born on October 25, 1881 in Malaga, Spain. His father was a painter and a painting teacher. He was directed by his father to paint at a young age. The art of painting was discovered in a short time. In 1895 he entered the School of Fine Arts. From 1901 he started using Picasso, his mother’s surname. His work has been published in a Spanish magazine Juventut.

  • In 1900 he went to Paris for the first time. He lived for a while in the Montmartre neighborhood, where innovative artists lived. Picasso made photographs of ordinary people, circus clowns, acrobats in his early period works from about 1901-04. As well as life in the big cities, the circus life was also of interest. However, his paintings reflected the sad side of this life. This period of the artist is defined as the ‘Blue Period‘.

 

  • Picasso is considered to have settled on cubism with Georges Braque. From 1907 to 1914 he makes taboos in what is called a cubist. The general characteristic of cubic tables is the use of geometry and geometric shapes. Illustrated objects are divided into simplified or geometric shapes to form geometric forms. Another feature of cubism is the effort to transfer a three dimensional object to a two dimensional surface. For this purpose, Picasso divides the shapes into lateral surfaces and tries to show each one on a two-dimensional surface. It is also seen that both the profile and the frontal appearance of the people in their portraits.

Picasso gave a response to a German general asking, “No, you did it,” during an exhibition, asking, “Did you do this picture?” This picture depicts the strong hatred that Picasso has for the war and the bombing of Guernica. The human and animal figures in the picture reflect the hatred of pain, sadness and war.
  • Picasso was also accused of kidnapping Mona Lisa, the work of Leonardo Da Vinci, in Florence in 1911.
