  • Microsoft Windows users can follow the steps below to open Notepad (Notepad.exe) in their own operating system.


  • Windows 10
  • Click the Start button.
  • Type Notepad or Notepad from the keyboard.
  • Click on the Notepad Result.






  • Windows 8
  • Access the metro screen from the left hand corner or from the Windows icon on your keyboard.
  • Type Notepad or Notepad with your keyboard.
  • Click on the result you received.


  • On Windows 7 and earlier operating systems
  • Click Start.
  • Click Run.
  • Type Notepad and click enter.

  • Go to Start> All Programs> Accessories tab.
  • Click on the notebook icon.


  • Can a picture be added to a Notepad file?
  • No, Notepad is an editor of the plaintext editor type and does not support image files. If you want to add a picture to the document you will create, you need to use Notepad program named Wordpad in Windows and save your file as .RTF.
