  • What does macos mean?
  • MacOS, formerly known as “Mac OS X” and “OS X“, is the latest version of the Macintosh operating system family, and Apple Inc. Is an operating system designed for Macintosh computers.
  • Mac OS X is originally based on Darwin, an open source operating system based on BSD and Mach microcircuitry. After Apple developed this system for its own purposes, Mac OS X improved Aqua as the user interface. Although the kernel and some components of the system are open-source, most components are not open-source.

  • Although MacOS Server is architecturally the same as Mac OS X on desktop, it is a separate operating system for Apple servers. Unlike Mac OS X, it includes advanced management tools.

  • In the introduction of OS X Mountain Lionun on July 25, 2012, the name was changed to Mac OS X name OS X. At the World Developers Conference (WWDC 2016) held on June 13, 2016, it was announced that the introduction of the new macOS Sierran was changed to OS X, MacOS.

  • MacOS History
  • Despite being the tenth version of the Mac operating system, the evolution of Mac OS X is largely independent of the classic Mac OS in the field. The system builds up the infrastructure of NeXTSTEP and later Mach is offered as open source under the name Darwin and BSD. Because of this, Mac OS X is a Unix-based operating system.
  • In 1985, Apple lashed its sleeves to create a “next generation” operating system (ex: Taligent and Copland). After the failed venture, NeXT’s operating system – now named OPENSTEP – was decided to be the basis of the new Mac operating system. Following this decision, NeXT was taken by Apple and Steve Jobs returned to Apple.

  • Shortly after Jobs returned, he took back the company president and intensified his work on the new operating system. This project, which aims to make Mac OS X by gradually developing OPENSTEP, is called Rhapsody. Rhapsody was launched on March 24, 2001, under the name of Mac OS X, although hardware difficulties in SH computers, a new software architecture based on the object, and some trade disputes caused a painful transition.

  • Product Names
  • Apple has chosen the X character in the Mac OS X name from Roman numerals. The X representing the number ten represents the operating system that comes after Mac OS 9. For this reason, the correct interpretation of the system by Apple is “Mac OS ten” (Mek o-es ten). In Turkish, it is read more commonly (Mak os iks). It is a nice coincidence that the system is actually Unix-based and ends with X like other Unix systems like AIX, HP-UX, IRIX, Linux, Minix, Ultrix, Xenix. The OS part is an abbreviation. Abbreviated as “OS“.

  • The operating systems in the Mac OS X series take their names from feline. The code name for version 10.0 was Cheetah, and the code name for version 10.1 was Puma. Both versions were marketed as Mac OS X 10.0 and Mac OS X 10.1. Starting with version 10.2, Apple began to run its operating systems to market with codenames, not version numbers. As a result, Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar, Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, Mac OS X 10.8 Driven by the name of Mountain Lion. In Mac OS X version 10.9, Mavericks was given a name and said goodbye to the kedigiller he inspired for the Mac OS X series names. He then registered Apple Lynx and Cougar brands. Finally, Apple Inc. With Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan’s name, the new operating system went free on the market. At the World Developers Conference (WWDC 2016) held on June 13, 2016, it was announced that Mac OS X name was changed to macOS.

  • Key features
  • The list is based on Leopard version.
  • Provides system-wide vector graphics using PDF and Quartz technologies.
  • It supports the use of resizable icons in high color, which can be up to 512×512 pixels.
  • All text fields in the system are compatible with the spelling guide, spelling correction, dictionary, different selection styles, autocomplete, drag-drop and system services.
  • In short, it is possible to use features that are counted in every text box you use, and the software does not have to make any special effort.
  • High quality image smoothing and shading.
  • Open application windows are accessed both by application and by access in the order in which they appear on the screen.
  • ColorSync: The image engine in the system automatically calibrates the colors of images that are ready to print, which will appear on paper or are displayed in different environments.
  • Thanks to OpenGL, it provides hardware-based acceleration for graphics rendering, the technology being called Quartz Extreme.
  • With the feature Exposé or Mission Control, all open windows, front application windows, or the desktop screen come with one key or mouse movement.
  • Most of the applications in the system are Unicode-enabled.
  • It provides an architecture that facilitates localization and translation. For most software, the language itself, the user interface, and the language used in the interface are completely independent of each other.
  • The FileVault feature encrypts user data using AES-128.
  • With the Dashboard layer hosting the so-called widgets, the software that handles small tasks can be called up from the hand and stored immediately. These small files can be created using just the mouse from any page opened in the Safari browser.
  • With Spotlight, you can search system-wide files, pictures, emails, addresses, and more. Search results can be stored as virtual folders.
  • With Quick Look, almost any file on the system can be viewed without running the application that created the file.
  • Automator is a software that can automate routine tasks for end users. AppleScript, developed a long time ago, has made AppleScript even easier to use.
  • Provides profiles that allow multiple users to use the same computer with different settings.
  • System-wide English voice command recognition and text reading capability are available. Thanks to VoiceOver, an advanced step in this technology, Mac OS X tells the visually impaired user what’s going on on the screen.
  • The FaceTime software, which comes with the standard setup, allows 3 people to make video conferences at the same time and 10 people to make voice calls at the same time. It comes with virtual presentations, remote screen control, background filters.
  • Time Machine allows you to search back through old versions if you can go back to your system at any time and restore any accidental deletion or corruption of files, any changes to the files.
  • With Mission Control, software clusters can be defined on multiple virtual desktops.
  • Using Apple Mail software to create a to-do list, get calendar notes. Easily share content in iLife applications with other customizable templates.
