  • What does (ip) Internet Protocol Address mean?
  • Internet Protocol Address (IP address) is the address that devices connected to other packet switched networks using the Internet or TCP / IP protocol use to exchange data with each other over the network.
  • Every computer that connects to the Internet is assigned an IP address by the Internet Service Provider, and other computers on the Internet reach that address on that computer. Even if two different devices with IP addresses are not on the same network, they can communicate with each other via routers.


  • IP addresses are currently 32 bits wide for IPv4 which is widely used and are indicated by 4 8 bit numbers separated by dots. For example:


  • A web page can also be connected to the server by typing the IP address. However, since writing these numbers is impractical, a domain name system corresponding to the IP address is used. A hierarchical system of Domain Name Servers (DNS-Domain Name System), also found in Internet service providers, maps information about which domain name corresponds to which IP address, and directs users to the correct addresses.


  • Dynamic and static IP addresses
  • The actual IP address to which the connecting user connects to the outside world is often dynamic. The Internet service provider, where the user is served, gives the user an IP address that is currently idle. This means that the actual IP address to which users are connected to the outside world can change when each connection is made.
  • The addresses of computers with static IP addresses do not change. Server is preferred for computers that are serving.






  • IP address classes
  • IP Addresses are classified according to usage areas. Class A 1-129, Class B 128-195, Class C 192-228, D, E and F classes 224-254.
  • For example;
  • Class A IP Addresses 1.aaa.bbb.ccc / 129.aaa.bbb.ccc
  • Class B IP Addresses 128.aaa.bbb.ccc / 195.aaa.bbb.ccc
  • Class C IP Addresses are in the range 192.aaa.bbb.ccc – 228.aaa.bbb.ccc.


  • How to obtain a host address from an IP address
  • The first octet of the Class A IP address is the network address and the remaining octets are the host address. For example, if the IP address is a.b.c.d, the network address is a, and the remaining b.c.d is the host address.
  • The first octet of the Class B IP Address is the network address, and the remaining octets are the host address.
  • The first three octets of the Class C IP Address are the network address and the remaining octets are the host address.


  • Private IP addresses
  • The three IP address blocks below are reserved for use on local area networks.

  • These blocks of IP addresses are allocated for use in local area networks (they are not singular on Earth) and are not routed by Internet service providers in wide area networks. Therefore, NAT is performed while the real IP address of the IP network to the Internet.
